HELD BY SOUND in Zürich

HELD BY SOUND

An Intimate Attic Sound Healing Journey

March 19 2027· Zurich

There are spaces that naturally invite us to slow down.

On March 19, the warm and intimate atmosphere of a private attic in Au will become a sanctuary of sound, stillness and deep rest.

Away from the noise and movement of everyday life, we will create a space that feels like an embrace — a place where you don’t need to achieve anything, understand anything or take care of anyone.

You can simply lie down.
Close your eyes.
Breathe.
And allow yourself to be held by sound.

The journey will begin with a gentle guided meditation, slowly leading us from the outer world into a deeper state of listening and presence.

From there, the space will be filled with the vibrations of gong, crystal singing bowls, Tibetan singing bowls and other therapeutic sound instruments, creating layers of sound that can be experienced not only through the ears, but through the whole body.

And woven through these sounds will be the human voice.

Perhaps one of the earliest sounds of connection we ever experience.

The voice will sometimes move beyond words, becoming tone, vibration and resonance — evoking, symbolically, the experience of being held within the womb, surrounded by the rhythms of the body and the familiar resonance of the mother’s voice.

A sound that does not ask you to understand.

Only to listen.

To feel.

To receive.

The deep vibration of the gong, the luminous tones of the crystal bowls, the grounding resonance of Tibetan singing bowls and the warmth of the human voice will come together to create an immersive soundscape — an invitation to soften and turn inward.

A journey from outer noise into inner listening.

From tension into softness.

From doing into simply being.

And when the final vibrations slowly disappear into silence, there will be no need to rush away.

We will stay together for a little while longer in the warmth of the attic, allowing time to return gently, ground and integrate the experience.

The evening will close with warm tea, quiet connection and a soft return to the outside world.

A warm attic.
A circle of sound.
A space to soften, listen and be held.

Sound & Altered States of Consciousness (ASC)

Sound can support the transition into Altered States of Consciousness (ASC) — states in which our usual patterns of attention, thinking, perception and sense of time may temporarily shift. Deep relaxation and meditative absorption are examples of experiences that can involve such altered states.

Through the sustained vibrations, rhythms, frequencies and overtones of instruments such as gongs, Tibetan and crystal singing bowls, therapeutic instruments and the human voice, attention can gradually move away from constant external stimulation and analytical thinking toward a more inward, receptive state.

These deeply relaxed states are often associated with alpha and theta brain activity, although individual responses to sound vary and a sound session cannot be assumed to produce a specific brainwave state.

Within an ASC, people may experience:

  • Deep physical and mental relaxation and reduced perceived stress.

  • Emotional processing and release, as feelings may become more accessible when the mind becomes quieter.

  • Greater inner awareness, allowing thoughts, memories and sensations to be observed from a different perspective.

  • Creativity and insight, including new perspectives or spontaneous inner imagery.

  • Changes in the perception of time and self, sometimes accompanied by a sense of spaciousness or stillness.

  • Feelings of connection or unity, which some people experience as deeply meaningful or spiritual.

One proposed framework relevant to altered states is transient hypofrontality, associated with neuroscientist Arne Dietrich. It suggests that during certain altered states, some higher-order cognitive processes involving the prefrontal cortex may temporarily become less dominant. This has been proposed as one possible explanation for experiences such as reduced self-monitoring, altered perception of self and time, and more intuitive or associative modes of experience.

In sound work, the intention is not to force a particular state, but to use sound, vibration, repetition and deep listening to create conditions that may support relaxation, inward attention and an altered experience of consciousness.

When thinking becomes quieter, listening can become deeper.
